For immediate release:
VANCOUVER’S NAT JAY SHARES MUSIC INDUSTRY KNOWLEDGE IN PEER-TO-PEER SEMINAR

“AN INDIE ARTIST’S GUIDE TO MUSIC LICENSING IN FILM & TV”
MAY 10 AT VSO SCHOOL OF MUSIC
1pm-4pm

(Vancouver, BC) ~ Singer, songwriter and recording artist Nat Jay is excited to announce her seminar, "An Indie Artist's Guide to Music Licensing in Film & TV" on Sunday, May 10 at the VSO School of Music (843 Seymour Street) from 1pm to 4pm.

Since releasing her first demo in 2007, Nat Jay's folk-pop songs have garnered close to thirty placements in film and TV such as The Hills, The City, Awkward, Heartland, Degrassi, Continuum, Bitten, and most recently Australia’s Winners & Losers.  An accomplishment for any independent artist, this feat has not only built her a reputation in the local music industry, but has also gained her fans from countries around the world.

Nat Jay's entrance into sync licensing came through a fateful turn of events when the first song she ever record - an unmixed, unmastered demo of her song "Love When I Can" - was placed in an emotional end-of-episode montage of the ABC series Men In Trees in 2008.  Since then, she has done everything she can to develop her knowledge and network in this sector of the industry, and is looking forward to sharing this knowledge with her peers.

"The question I get asked the most by both new and established artists is always, 'How do you get your music placed in film and TV?'", says Jay.  "The tough thing is, it's not a short answer.  It's something that has taken me years to learn and is continuously evolving.  I wanted to find a way to address this question for as many artists as I could, so I broke it down into a step-by-step approach and came up with the idea for the seminar."

With a background in public speaking and many years of experience in the performing arts, this has been a natural fit for Jay.  She has already presented several successful lectures for Music Publishing classes at Pacific Audio Visual Institute and has now opened up registration for her first public seminar.

"Educational panels and seminars in the music industry are traditionally run by industry professionals.  Hearing the info come from a peer, who is out there working hard and trying to have a successful career just like they are, carries a special kind of value for artists.  It's coming from someone they can relate to and gives them something attainable to strive for.  It feels more like we're all in this together."

The registration fee for An Indie Artist’s Guide to Music Licensing in Film & TV with Nat Jay is $99.  Registration is required at www.natjay.com/seminar.
